Châteauroux

The town on the river Indre is located almost in the heart of the country. Among other things, this makes it the perfect stopover for the Tour de France. Lovers of culture, however, can enjoy plenty of other attractions – for example, the renowned dance festival. The town was founded by
Raoul I. the Great, Prince of Déols, around 950 with the construction of the Château-Raoul castle. It received its town charter in 1230.
Châteauroux was Gütersloh’s first twin town in 1977. From the beginning, the driving idea behind this partnership was to promote cultural and economic exchange.
